Essential Maintenance Guide: Steel Anilox Roller with Rubber Roller VS. Ceramic Roller With Doctor Blade

In printing and coating machinery, maintenance strategies must match the technology being used. Steel anilox roller with rubber roller requires different care than the ceramic roller with doctor blade. Treating them the same risks reduced print quality, higher downtime, and costly repairs.

1. Maintain Proper Ink Fluidity

  • Check and adjust ink viscosity regularly to ensure smooth transfer. Thick ink can overflow and trap air bubbles.

Pro Tip : Use a viscometer during setup to keep ink within the optimal working range.

2. Restart Protocol After Power Loss

Power outages reset the doctor blade engagement button automatically. Always manually restart it when power returns to resume ink transfer.

3. Immediate Cleaning After Printing

Remove residual ink within one minute after stopping production. Flush the system with water immediately to avoid dried ink blocking the anilox cells.

✅ Continue flushing until no ink traces remain.

4. Emergency Cleaning After Sudden Shutdown

If a sudden power cut leaves ink stationary on the roller, use a specialized cleaning agent and a damp cloth to wipe the surface longitudinally.

✅ Avoid circular scrubbing to prevent surface scratches.

5. Doctor Blade Ink Leakage

  1. Remove the yellow adjustment handle.

  2. Loosen the main nut and adjust the screw shaft feed incrementally.

  3. Advance the blade slowly while introducing a small water flow until leakage stops.

  4. Lock the nut, reinstall the handle, and tighten securely.

6. Special Check for Ceramic With Doctor Blade Systems

Before restarting after any stoppage, confirm ink has not dried on the roller surface. Dry ink can permanently damage both roller and blade.

Why This Matters

Correct maintenance extends equipment lifespan, stabilizes ink transfer, reduces waste, and lowers operating costs. Tailoring your approach to the specific roller type is the smartest way to safeguard production efficiency.
